| im a sophmore at Viterbo univeristy,a small private college in Wisconsin...im originally from Minnesota...Im a Sudio Art major with an emphasis in Sculpture...Right now im taking a turn in my life just to become more introverted to find myself here at college...i feel like i need to just sit back and observe life and not act on it...so hopefully that will be reflected in my art to come! My artist statement: As an artist I view myself as a mediator between the pieces I create and the world around me. My current works and ideas are based and human sexuality and the primal human need to be intimate and sexual. The society I view is strongly based upon sexual desires and insecurity; the need to have the perfect body, wear the best clothes. These needs are to create the perfect image of oneself to try and feel wanted, loved, or simply to cover up insecurities. The forms I use are very smooth and free flowing, representing the soft, erotic aspect of our deepest sexual curiosities. Inspiration of my forms are derived from different types of sexuality, from sexual positions, sexual acts, to sexual conflicts in our society. The colors and surfaces used are reflections remind us that there is always more than meets the eye. The color schemes and choices are bright and captivating to evoke the feeling of someone crying out for help as they use their sexual curiosities to cover up their life problems. The under surfaces are inspired by weathered metal, showing that there is always something hidden beneath the surface. Overall, my artwork is a symbol of how society obsessed with achieving “ideal” sexuality and how it is a part of every one of our lives. It is found in every aspect of our lives, from TV programming to worldly events and even culture. As time progresses we become more open to different forms of sexuality, which can lead to various impacts on society. Is sexuality of everyday existence condemning our way of life or causing it to thrive? You make the choice! |
